Award shows to me now are not as exciting as they used to be, but in the time of corona, I was curious about how to MTV Video Music Awards would play out. Performances were pre-recorded, and the actual award show took place live, but with no audience. Surprisingly enough, I did enjoy it more than last year's show, and the fashion was still definitely a focal point at certain moments of the show. I'll break down a few of my favorite moments from the night with pictures down below!

Sheer and Sexy
Fall is just around the corner, but now's not the time to bundle up! The most eyecatching VMA carpet looks were the ones that were especially feminine and revealing. Combining see-through fabric with strategic cutouts and paneling makes the ensembles classy and still leaves a little bit to the imagination. Bella Hadid wears Nensi Dojaka while Miley Cyrus and Madison Beer chose Mugler for the occasion.
Machine Gun Kelly
What truly surprised me out of all the looks of the entire night Machine Gun Kelly. He took a step out of his pop-punk comfort zone to try something more refined. At the preshow, he took a page out of Harry Style's fashion handbook and paired his bright pink suit with a dainty pearl necklace.
BTS
We already know that the boys of this super talented K-pop group are inherently fashion icons, and tonight was no different! They nailed men's suiting elements (as they usually do) for their performance of "Dynamite," and some of the members wore flared pants, which added flair to the look and amplified the movement of their crisp choreography.
Chloe and Halle
One thing these two sisters consistently do is snap on a coordinating look! I love the reflective bodysuits and matching boots. Their whole aesthetic is all about the future, and I can see their unique brand through their live performances. The shiny silver also was breathtaking combined with the flashing lights used while they sang "Ungodly Hour."
Lady Gaga
Sweeping most of the categories and showing up on stage the most was Lady Gaga. She had the most elaborate gowns for her outfits changes that were a little outlandish, but the colors and choice of material define what her Chromatica era looks like. What I thought was super creative was the use of masks (and a face shield on the carpet). Some were very big, so you couldn't miss them from a mile away while some others were more toned down. The masks were safe but coordinated perfectly with each of her gowns and bodysuits. It's a perfect example of the way to use the results of a pandemic to your advantage.
If this is what the future of live shows might be (for the time being), I think MTV did well with the situation given to make an entertaining program! I can't wait to see what the rest of the award season is going to look like!
Thanks so much for reading and I'll see you in the next post!
