The 61st Annual Grammy awards were Sunday evening, and even though the awards show and the Recording Academy itself is messy (i.e. Rihanna and Beyonce being snubbed multiple times in a row, artists receiving awards who don't deserve it, I could go on if you want) the red carpet still piques public interest. Musicians have a certain way of expressing themselves through clothing that I love to see. This year we've got some beautiful ensembles and some ... not so great ones to unpack. So here's my list of faves and flops in no specific order. Click through the slideshow to see the outfits and check below for my commentary.

H.E.R. in Coach
Even without showing her face, H.E.R. had one of the most eye-catching looks of the night. The jewel tones sequins are glamorous, but her signature sunglasses cool the look down and make it her own.
Miley Cyrus in Mugler
I absolutely live for a woman in a black tux! Menswear for women will never not be sexy, and the unusual detailing of the sleeves and pant legs makes it a step above a black suit.
Janelle Monae in Jean Paul Gaultier
Janelle in JPG makes perfect sense considering the era for Dirty Computer calls for a more futuristic look. The angular shoulders and headpieces are cohesive which totally match Janelle's sound. It's just absolutely genuine to her style.
Heidi Klum in Stephane Rolland
At first I hated this dress. She kind of looks like a blob of snow. Then I remembered this is Heidi Klum and she is so extra almost all the time so it makes sense. While she walked on the red carpet the dress had movement, and that made me hate it less.
Charlie Puth in Prada
It's pretty hard to get me excited about a men's suit but the mix of brown/black/red is a step above all the black and white. The silhouette of the jacket along with the ruffled shirt underneath is giving me a 70's vibe that I think looks tailored to perfection.
Jennifer Lopez in Ralph and Russo
While J Lo usually brings it to a red carpet .... I'm not loving this look. I'm used to seeing her in more revealing pieces and that hat is so big it's covering her face. This only works when Beyonce does it. It was worth a shot though!
Travis Scott in Saint Laurent and Kylie Jenner in Balmain
There's several things going wrong here: Travis looks exhausted and like he could use a good facial scrub. Kylie looks like she was forced to put this on against her will, and the proportions are all wrong for her body type. I could see Lady Gaga getting into this and having a blast but this is so far out of Kylie's comfort zone that her lack of confidence also brings down the whole look.
Lady Gaga in Celine by Hedi Slimane
She looks like a glitzy statue and this is everything I could have asked for. So far she's nailed every single outfit for press tour for A Star Is Born and she's keeping the ball rolling for the Grammys. The silver glitter reminds me of The Fame days as well and we'll never get tired of that.
Tracee Ellis Ross in Ralph and Russo
Like I've already mentioned before, women in suits?? Yes GOD! And a GREEN one at that? We really didn't deserve this but she did it anyway! The braids going towards back I would usually oppose but since the hair is out of the way it gives the suit all the attention. And the snake detail isn't bad either!
Kacey Musgraves in Valentino
While we've been seeing a lot of glimmery short gowns, Kacey went a different route with a long chiffon couture dress. This was the biggest surprise of the night for me because it's one of the simpler gowns of the evening but her flawless makeup and simple hair make her look ethereal.
Shawn Mendes in Paul Smith
My king! My icon! I was hoping he would walk away with an award and hoping for a more exciting suit. Something decadent with gold on the sleeves, or maybe a floral would have made him stand out so much more. Navy is a classic, though, so he didn't go completely wrong. Also he's out-of-this-world handsome and talented and that helps.
Rashida Jones in Ralph Lauren
This literally looks like a dress from The Loft or something. Very stale and not flattering either.
Andra Day in custom Cheng-Huai Chuang
But this 60's look was not it at all! This is less Twiggy and more Hairspray. It's too costumey to be a red carpet look. If this was a stage outfit that would have been incredible but I feel like this was a wasted opportunity to look glam. There's always next time.
Cardi B in vingtage Mugler
The devil works hard but Cardi's stylist works harder!! Dear Lord I am beyond impressed with everything she's been wearing since last year (thank you Kollin Carter, you're a literal legend). An homage to Birth of Venus, this gown was a focal piece in Thierry Mugler's Fall 1995 show. It was absolutely made for Cardi to have. She was my favorite of the night hands down!
ALL TEA ALL SHADE!!!!!!!!!
