Harry Styles on SNL: A Fashion Review

Hi everyone! Sorry that it's been quiet over here on the blog. My Halloween posts never turned out the right way, so there were no uploads. Working full time around the holidays is taking up so much time but I still have many ideas planned, so keep an eye out on your inbox/notifications for new posts!

This post is a bit spontaneous. Harry Styles, the pop star of our generation and style icon for all, was tasked to host and perform on Saturday Night Live. I don't watch the show anymore but I decided to stay up and check out his performance. Anything for him, I suppose! Not only was he funny and charming but his fashion for the night was aligned to the style we all know him for. Let's take a few minutes to talk about the outfits he wore on the show!

For the opening monologue, he opted for a fresh Gucci suit from the Spring 2020 collection. One thing to know about Harry if you didn't know it already: the man is very loyal to his brands! His first solo tour wardrobe was comprised of all custom Gucci, so seeing him in Gucci again is expected. But this is a fantastic opening option because it's eye-catching and not so overwhelming for the viewer. The colors were super saturated and easy to see. He styled this with a few top buttons undone, his plethora of rings, and multi-colored nails. The nails he kept throughout the show and were a minor (but impactful) detail.

For his first song performance, he chose to do a stripped-down version of "Lights Out." The head-to-toe sequin jumpsuit is custom, and it's just the black version of the same one he wore for the song's video. The all-black version complimented the mood of the song's slower tempo. Of course, in typical Harry fashion, the jumpsuit opening was undone down to his stomach. We got a tasteful peek of the butterfly tattoo!

His second song was "Watermelon Sugar", a song that was released an hour before SNL was scheduled to air. A new song and live performance all in one night?? He spoils us all the time.

Once again, Gucci Spring 2020 suit, but this time it was a crisp apple red. Monotone suits are a great way to make it look more special because wearing all of one color makes you look tall and lean. Harry is already a solid 6 feet, but one color (even the shoes not pictured) lengthened him out. The pants are tailored a little bit above the natural waist and the jacket is cropped, which is a silhouette that Harry has embraced since going solo. The black tie and matching belt breaks it up but doesn't deter on how beautiful the suit is.

For his closing part, we get a casual look from Harry. This might be my favorite outfit of the entire night! Only because it's more toned down but we still see the same flattering silhouette of the high waist trouser and cropped jacket. The plaid jacket and white shirt are very casual in comparison to what else we saw all night. I also love the blue and yellow paired with the chestnut brown! The Christopher Kane t-shirt reading "Sex" is a little dash of naughty charm we love from Harry and reminds me of his off duty style in One Direction. His impact on graphic t-shirt sales has not faltered since going solo (as type this, the shirt is sold out.)

Overall, I think he did a wonderful job! It takes a great amount of charisma to host and perform but we knew he could it. And he looked great doing it all too!

Thanks so much for reading, and I'll catch you in the next post!
