MTV VMAS: The Looks That Were Served!

Last night (August 26th), the MTV Video Music Awards aired live from New Jersey. I can't remember the last time an award show aired on a Monday, but the VMAs have been my favorite award show since I was in middle school. I'm all about the musical performances but I also love the fashion, of course. Below, I touch base on a few red carpet looks I loved for the night and talk about some that were close but not quite....scroll for more!

Normani

Normani was absolutely giving me Aaliyah vibes, but make it technicolor! Her debut performance was amazing and for a new girl on the scene she is clearly establishing her early aughts aesthetic and nailing it!

Shawn Mendes

The emerald green suit was an excellent way to set Shawn apart from the other menswear looks other guys had. There's a peek of a sheer button up (that we don't fully see until his performance), but it adds some dimension to the look.

Halsey

The gown itself is so beautiful and delicate but I truly wish it photographed better. It looks orange but on film/video it's more red. I think white undergarments underneath or matching ones wouldn't look so harsh. But the cross earrings?? KILLER.

Taylor Swift

Fresh off her release of Lover, Taylor has been opting to wear colors more often than her previous era. You absolutely can't go wrong with the old blazer-as-a-dress trick. I like how the blazer and the boots are glittery, so they photograph and catch light beautifully.

Jonas Brothers

For the Happiness Begins tour, the brothers have been wearing suits in every color in the rainbow, so I'm just a little disheartened they decided to wear all black to an award show they haven't been to in so long (in their home state, too!!) The tailoring details are nice but it's boring in black and gray.

Lizzo

Lizzo loves an old school gown and boa situation, it suits her style very well. Bonus points for the fact that the gown is custom Moschino (a fashion house known for campy designs). I want more collaboration from the both of them from here on out!

Lil Nas X

Prince would be proud of this glittery homage from our new favorite king of country! Lil Nas made it his own with his signature boots and utilizing Western accessories, opting for a snake earring over his usual cowboy hat.

Megan Thee Stallion

Megan is usually seen performing in two pieces from Fashion Nova (which isn't a bad thing). So this two piece with the blazer and all the crystals and patterns really elevates her look. I like how she still kept her bone straight hair and hoops to keep it true to herself.

Tana Mongeau

Every now and then someone shows up to the red carpet with a snake (We can thank Britney Spears for starting it all!). The snake matches the dress, and quite frankly, Tana has never looked better on a red carpet! She looks like she's been dipped in gold, and the teeny sunglasses add a cool edge to the otherwise formal look.

Zara Larsson

The most underrated look of the night was Zara Larsson, pop diva in the making and host of the pre-show. Since we saw her so early on I think it was easy to get caught up with everything else going on but the ruffles are so feminine and pretty, as well as the color. She looks like a little scoop of strawberry ice cream but make it look glamorous and not cheesy

Those are my highlights! I hope you guys liked the reviews. Did you have a favorite outfit of the night? Favorite performance? Leave me a comment and we can chat!

Until next time!
