After having the tickets for a little bit over a year, I finally got to see Shawn Mendes on the St. Louis stop of his tour! A literal dream come true! I've been a fan for a very long time. The first time I saw him perform he only had his little guitar and a 5 song EP. Now he's 3 albums deep into his career and making a name for himself in pop music. I couldn't have asked for a better time to be honest!
Concerts are one of only a few things I'm willing to leave the house for, so of course I had to be sure my look is just right. I would like to say I have a process of planning concert outfits but really my two main concerns are how comfortable I'll be and if my outfit matches the vibe that the musician I'm seeing has. I didn't get a whole lot of pictures of my outfit because I spent most of my day running around trying to look for Shawn, but me and my friend Cheyenne ended up going to Pride and watching everyone parade in rainbow gear.
My inspiration came from seeing the rise of the Hawaiian shirt this spring. Different stores are carrying all kinds for summer, and it's super trendy to wear one buttoned up and tucked in or to make a tie in the front. I found mine at a thrift store and I liked it better with the tie. My torso is short so had I left it open it wouldn't do much for my shape and might make me look less proportionate. Shawn's aesthetic/production was all flowers and romantic colors so I figured the jewel tones and floral pattern matched that mood.
Normally I don't wear any jewelry to a concert especially one this hot and sweaty but I also choose to layer three necklaces to follow the neckline. Shawn himself is seen wearing two pendants at a time pretty often, and I think that's a popular trend in menswear right now.
Since it was really REALLY hot I had to wear the shortest shorts I could find just so I wouldn't pass out. The girls at the concert wearing jeans were truly braver than I'll ever be!! No matter what I look like I always take the weather into consideration. Summer concerts means my uniform is going to be a crop top and shorts and sneakers in some capacity.
For shoes, I wore my trusty Adidas because wearing sandals would have looked better but I knew I would be jumping around all night and walking a little bit back to the car after the show was over. Comfort is key! I was already very sweaty, I didn't need to add achy feet on top of it.
I think I looked pretty cute, but let's talk about Shawn's outfit very quickly. I love his personal style and his tour looks are pretty minimal and straightforward, which I admire. He came out with an olive green button up with a tank to underneath, jewelry (lots of rings and gold bracelets), blue jeans and black boots. I don't think I've ever seen him wear any other kind of pants onstage besides black jeans but I don't blame him. It's a staple among young male performers nowadays (boys really do love a tight black skinny jean), but Shawn switched it up and I thought it looked great. Light wash denim sounds scary but pairing it with complimentary colors (the white tank and the lightness of the olive green button up) keeps the look fresh for summer, even with the starkness of his black boots.
Overall, I thought I looked great (despite the heat and walking around) and I had a killer time! I'm prioritizing his next tour so I can get merch this time. Maybe I'll do a post on styling merch too? We'll see!
Thanks for reading, check back soon for the next one!
